Research is one of the vital component of Rupayaan’s work. All our Action and Advocacy are driven by the experiences and evidences generated from Research, may it be through primary or secondary studies. Our Research includes a variety of themes starting from Right to Food, Right to Work, Health, Nutrition, Education, Gender, Farmers and Farming as well as Governance.

Rupayaan’s research work has two components. On the one hand, we are supporting Academicians, National and International Researchers and Institutions in carrying out specific studies on the issues affecting the people, especially the most marginalized and excluded. On the other hand, we take independent field studies and come up with regular analysis, reports, fact sheets etc. based on secondary information. The following are some of the key studies and research conducted and facilitated by Rupayaan.

  • Four Years of National Food Security Act - 2013, a secondary analysis of progress and issues in Odisha in association with Nabakrushna Choudhry Centre for Development Studies (NCDS), Bhubaneswar and Centre for Equity Studies (CES), New Delhi; July 2017.
  • Social Security Pension for Elderly – an analysis of Progress, Policy and Practice based on the secondary information in association with HelpAge India; March 2018.
  • Perspective of Nutrition among Service Providers and Communities by Lucas William a student of Chester University, Warrington, UK as part of internship with Rupayaan; January to March 2017.
  • Understanding the Implementation of National Food Security Act, a field study in three Gram Panchayats of Koraput District, Odisha in association with volunteers from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Tuljapur; October 2016.
  • Rupayaan coordinated the Hard Work and No Pay Survey on Targeted Public Distribution System by Prof. Jean Dreze and Dr. Reetika Khera in six villages of Balangir and Sudragarh district of Odisha; June 2016.
  • Status of implementation of National Food Security Act-2013 in Dundelmal GP of Kalahandi district.
  • Study on the impact of hybrid maize on traditional crop in Kalahandi-Balangir and Koraput regions of Odisha”.
  • Study on the functioning of the Maternity Benefit (Mamata) scheme in Anugul, Balasore and Malkangiri districts of Odisha; October 2015.
  • Endline evaluation of the project titled “Safe and Healthy Environment for Children of Informal Waste Workers” in 7 slums of Bhubaneswar commissioned by CCWD, Odisha, January 2016.
  • Implementation of Maternity Benefit (Mamata) Scheme. The survey was carried out in the districts of Angul, Balesore, Kalahandi and Malkangiri.
  • Survey on ICDS and Mamata schemes. The survey was carried out in collaboration with IIT Delhi in 50 AWCs the districts of Bargarh, Ganjam, Koraput and Mayurbhanj.
  • Survey and Social Audit of Pension Schemes: Pension Schemes in 35 GPs across 10 districts of Odisha, during September to December, 2013.
  • Quick survey on Mid-Day Meal Scheme in drought affected areas of Odisha, 2012. (Surveyed Districts - Subarnapur, Boudh, Bargarh, Nuapada, Ganjam and Bolangir) during June 2012.
  • Study on poor left out (PLO): To mapping the exclusion and inclusion errors of Poor left out households. The study was conducted in 32 villages across 8 districts of Odisha.
  • Study on PDS: Devising Social Monitoring & Audit Tools, with Support from Centre for World Solidarity (CWS, ORC) and its partners in three districts of Odisha, i.e. Koraput, Rayagada & Kandhamal, during July 2012.
  • Study on “Nutrition Status among the Migrating Children”, in three districts of Odisha (namely Bolangir, Baragarh and Nuapada) with support from VCRO, during September, 2012.
  • A study on status of service delivery of SNP and Pre-schooling education under ICDS.
  • Implementation and impact of MGNREGA; in four tribal districts of Odisha viz. Koraput, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj & Sundargarh of Odisha, during February 2012, Supported by ISI, New Delhi.
  • Strengthening local governance - process and lessons, carried out by Director Rupayaan for CYSD, Bhubaneswar.
  • Comprehensive study on MDM in Odisha, this was carried out in 12 districts viz- Kendrapara, Nayagarh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Boudh, Koraput, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Khurdha and Puri of Odisha.
  • Process documentation of MGNREGA implementation in two blocks of Kondhmal district- Odisha.
  • Status of Implementation of Food Schemes in Orissa. A Report based on Field Survey in Four Districts, Balasore, Gajapati, Kandhamal and Nuapada, May 2010.
  • BPL identification and Issue of Right to Food in Odisha, (Study conducted in 6 GPs of Kalahandi and Koraput, during December 2010). Supported by “Indo-global Social Service Society” (IGSSS).
  • Universalization with quality and compliance of Supreme Court orders – a study of ICDS programme in 76 AWCs, spread across 16 Anganwadi Projects and seven districts (including Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation).
  • “Functioning of right to food schemes” for the Commissioners of the Supreme Court.
  • Study on Tribal Hunger in Keonjhar district of Orissa, Director was part of the survey.
  • Trend and dynamics of migration in four tribal blocks of Koraput district. Director had carried out the study on behalf of SPREAD.
  • Study on Emergency Feeding Programme in Orissa, carried out in Bolangir district of Orissa by Centre for Equity Studies and Rupayaan was part of that during the survey. The objective was to assess the usefulness of the programme in addressing food insecurity of the beneficiaries.
  • Hunger Commission, Commissioners of Supreme Court of India, Director Rupayaan was part of this survey process.
  • Social Audit of OTELP projects in Lanjigarh block from the perspective of Right to Food: December 2008 to January 2009.
  • Carried out the field survey of the study “Social Exclusion in Koraput districts of Orissa”, in Koraput district of Orissa with support from UN World Food Programme.
